Shakhtar Donetsk vs Marseille Highlights

Shakhtar Donetsk took a giant stride towards the last four of the UEFA Cup after beating Marseille in their quarter-final first leg.

Tomas Hubschman set the Ukrainian side on their way in the first half and Rodrigues Jadson doubled the lead after the break as Shakhtar continued their impressive European form.

They beat Tottenham and CSKA Moscow in the last two rounds and looked superior to Marseille, who went into the game with an impressive eight-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 which included six wins.

PSG vs Dynamo Kiev Highlights

Dynamo Kiev will be having a slight advantage to cling onto heading into next week’s UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg against Paris St Germain after holding out for a goalless draw at the Parc des Princes.

PSG edged the first leg in the French capital, but they will disappointed for not taking advantage of a number of openings they created in an open first half.

But Dynamo came back hard in the second half and probably deserved a draw overall and will fancy their chances of finishing the job next Thursday, given their redoubtable form at home this season.

However, the sight of midfielder Carlos Correa being stretchered off will have ruined what was an ultimately successful outing for Dynamo coach Yuri Semin.

Jury is out on home-boy Robinho

When Robinho arrived at Eastlands in September 2008 for a record-breaking £32.5million big things were expected from the Brazilian forward.
But entering the Premier League run-in, has the 25-year-old done enough to justify his huge price tag?
Well, on home soil the tricky forward has at times been brilliant – just remember his dazzling hat-trick against Stoke in October.
But away from home he has far too often gone missing and only two of his 11 goals have come away from Eastlands.
The playmaker was criticised again for a lacklustre display in City’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea last weekend – the team the former Real Madrid star was set to join before City’s late swoop. But as Hughes points out, he’s not the only one to disappoint away from home as City have collected just one away win in the top flight all season.
Hughes said: “I think that applies to a number of players. Our performances away from home, certainly in the Premier League, haven’t been as good as our home form.
“But there is always an opportunity to put things right, to impress, in every game we play.
“That applies to every player in my team – it is not just Robinho that needs to have a positive performance. Every player in my team needs to have a positive performance.”
Hughes is focusing his attention on City’s UEFA Cup run and a good result on Thursday in the second leg against Aalborg will see the favourites into the quarter-finals.
And if Robinho can fire them all the way to UEFA Cup glory in Istanbul on May 20 then the big bucks City’s owners forked out will have been well worth it.

St Etienne vs Werder Bremen Highlights: UEFA Cup Highlights

Werder Bremen became the first club to book their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup, after a 2-2 draw at St Etienne and rounded off wit a 3-2 aggregate win.

The Bundesliga side’s passage to the last eight was never in any doubt, after Sebastian Prodl headed them in front in the sixth minute.

Claudio Pizarro doubled the lead in the 28th minute.

But Yohan Benalouane scored what appeared to be a 64th-minute consolation goal for the home side, and Sebastian Grax then grabbed a last-minute equalizer to earn St Etienne some respect despite their elimination.
