Villarreal vs Real Madrid Highlights

Two-time reigning champions Real Madrid handed their Primera Division crown to arch rivals Barcelona after slumping to a 3-2 defeat at Villarreal.

Lying eight points behind table toppers Barca with three games remaining, Madrid needed to win at El Madrigal to keep the title race alive - at least until Pep Guardiola’s men met Real Mallorca tomorrow.

But goals from Robert Pires, Ruben Cani and Joan Capdevila cancelled out efforts from Madrid duo Rafael Van der Vaart and Gonzalo Higuain to give Villarreal a much-needed boost in their quest for a Champions League spot and hand Barca the title.

Real Madrid vs Valladolid Highlights

Real Madrid dug out a 2-0 home win over Real Valladolid to trim Barcelona’s lead at the top of the Primera Division back to six points.

It was far from entertaining fare at the Bernabeu but Real will not be overly concerned as goals towards the end of either halves from Raul and Arjen Robben earned Juande Ramos’s in-form side their 14th win in their last 15 league games.

The triumph also ensured Real stayed within touching distance of Barca with six points, who had moved nine points clear after beating Recreativo Huelva last night.

Malaga vs Real Madrid Highlights

Real Madrid kept up the pressure on Primera Liga leaders Barcelona after continuing their stunning run of league form with a narrow 1-0 victory over Malaga.

Although they were unable to match the 6-0 trouncing Barca inflicted on Malaga in the last round of fixtures, Gonzalo Higuain’s individual goal just after the break was enough to score three points for Madrid and keeps them within six points of Pep Guardiola’s men, who had beaten Real Valladolid earlier on Saturday.

Madrid’s win means they have now earned an astonishing 40 from a possible 42 over the last few months under new coach Juande Ramos and, with nine games remaining in the season, look certain to take the title race right to the wire.

Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid Highlights

Real Madrid’s title hopes suffered a setback on Saturday night after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to arch rivals Atletico Madrid, although the defending champions can consider themselves fortunate to have even escaped with a point.

A week after denting Barcelona’s title charge with a 4-3 victory over the pacesetters, Atletico should have recorded their first win over Real in a decade after creating much the better of the chances at the Bernabeu.

However, a mixture of fine goalkeeping by Iker Casillas, the woodwork and poor finishing allowed Real to avoid defeat in an entertaining encounter.

That will be of scant consolation to Juande Ramos’ side though, who now trail Barca by six points after the Catalan giants downed Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at the Nou Camp.
