Barcelona vs Valencia Highlights

A spirited performance from Xavi ensure that Barcelona came from behind to beat pre-match Primera Division leaders Valencia at the Nou Camp and move above Unai Emery’s side at the top of the table only to be displaced to second place after Real Madrid won 4-1 at Malaga.

Second-half goals from Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol both set up by the Xavi turned the result around after Pablo Hernandez had given the visitors the lead eight minutes before the break. It was hardly a dominating performance from the hosts, but a deserved success in the end.

Barcelona vs Mallorca Highlights

Emilio Nsue headed a shock equaliser to shock Barcelona as Pep Guardiola’s fell three points behind Primera Division leaders Valencia after a 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca. Lionel Messi gave Barcelona an early lead after 20 minutes on his first league start since injuring an ankle in the 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid two weeks ago.

But young striker Nsue levelled for the visitors shortly before half-time and the home side struggled to find a way through in the second period. Bojan Krkic could only manage to hit the post late on, but the Catalans were below their creative best and will be disappointed to have dropped two points at home.

Real Madrid vs Deportivo La Coruña Highlights

Real Madrid ended their goalscoring drought by putting sorry Deportivo La Coruna to the sword in a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu. There has been a lot of talk regarding Madrid’s lack of goals under new coach Jose Mourinho, with just nine scored in their opening seven competitive games, but the floodgates were smashed open on Sunday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted first and last, with Mesut Ozil scoring his first for Real, Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and an own goal from Ze Castro completing the rout. Depor, whose only goals in their last six league games stretching way back to last season came from two Andres Guardado penalties against Getafe, pulled one back in the 78th minute through Juan Rodriguez but they were already 5-0 down at that point and knew that the match was out of their grasp.

Valencia vs Manchester United Highlights

Manchester United new recruit Javier Hernandez chose the perfect time to net his first competitive goal for the Red Devils as his 85th-minute winner proved too good for Valencia.

Although United rarely looked like improving their previous record of three successive goalless draws in Spain, Sir Alex Ferguson will not care too much as his side emerged with three crucial points.

The mere fact that Hernandez’s goal, drilled expertly into the far corner after fellow substitute Federico Macheda had cut a cross back from the right, provided United with only their second victory in 19 attempts against Spanish opposition on Spanish soil proves how hard it is.

Instead of having ground to make up in the battle to reach the knockout phase, United can now face back-to-back clashes with Group C makeweights Bursaspor knowing six points will virtually secure their place in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League.
