AC Milan vs Chelsea Highlights: World Football Challenge

CARLO ANCELOTTI celebrated a meeting with his old club by claiming another impressive victory. But it was a less than friendly fixture with the Chelsea manager’s former team in Baltimore.

This result made it three wins out of three for Ancelotti in this pre-season tour of America.Just like the last two matches in the States, Chelsea took an early lead.

Didier Drogba was given the ball by John Terry and loads of space by the Milan defense before smashing a 35-yard drive into the top corner after just seven minutes.

It was almost a carbon copy of his goal against Jose Mourinho’s side last Tuesday night and confirmed the striker is in red hot form.

Unlike their city rivals,  Milan looked very up for this match and the goal stirred them into action.

Andrea Pirlo had a shot blocked by Petr Cech, but Ronaldinho then began controlling the match, and after 38 minutes the Rossonieri were level. The Brazilian dripped a perfect lay off to Clarence Seedorf, who fired a bending shot past Cech.

It was much the same story after the break. Ronaldinho rattled the bar with a brilliant free kick from range and Pato was hacked down by Ivanovic.

Nicolas Anelka should have scored when Drogba put him in on goal but  his shot was wide of the far post.

The breakthrough did come after 69 minutes, when Blues’ new recruit Yuri Zhirkov scored.

Shots from Shevchenko and Lampard were blocked before Russian international Zhirkov fired a low show past Zeljko Kalac. It was just reward for the debutant, who was industrious throughout an impressive first outing.

Ancelotti resisted the temptation to make any changes until late in the match, when victory over the club he bossed for eight years was in the bag.

LA Galaxy vs AC Milan Highlights: Friendly Highlights

The Los Angeles Galaxy had approached Sunday night’s exhibition against AC Milan as a pleasant diversion from MLS and a chance to face some quality opposition. In both instances they got their money’s worth.

The Galaxy gave the 17-time Serie A champions everything they could handle in a spirited 2-2 tie in front of a boisterous, sellout crowd at The Home Depot Center.

Galaxy’s David Beckham, facing his former team where he spent five months on an extended loan earlier this year, was booed loudly in his first home game in Los Angeles since his return. But he assisted on both LA goals and turned many of those boos into cheers by the time Mike Magee replaced him in the 75th minute.

For AC Milan Thiago Silva and Filippo Inzaghi scored the goals.

Chievo Verona vs AC Milan Highlights

Clarence Seedorf rounded off a glorious team effort to sink struggling Chievo and strengthen AC Milan’s bid for Champions League qualification berth.

The veteran midfielder guided the ball past Stefano Sorrentino early in the second half after Marek Jankulovski and Filippo Inzaghi had both turned down shooting chances to set him up.

Milan did not have it all their own way, though, and boss Carlo Ancelotti had to watch most of the game from the stands after being sent off for protesting too much over a first-half free-kick.
