Bayern Munich fought back from a first-minute goal from Vedad Ibisevic for TSG Hoffenheim to win 2-1 courtesy of a last-gasp effort from Daniel van Buyten.

The hosts led after less than a minute with Vedad Ibisevic on target, but German international Thomas Muller equalised for the defending champions just over an hour into the contest. Van Buyten’s late strike stole all three points for Bayern as the game entered stoppage time.

Bayern Munich vs AS Roma Highlights: Champions League

Last year’s runners up Bayern Munich got off to a perfect winning start in the Champions League with a 2-0 win over a defensive Roma.

Thomas Muller and Miroslav Klose netted the goals towards the end of what was a frustrating night for Bayern, who spent the entire game trying to break down a catenaccio-inspired Roma side and almost failed to do so.

Roma set their stall out to defend and, apart from two chances, they rarely tested the Bayern goal. Bayern dominated the possession stakes from start to finish, but just could not find a way through until the final 10 minutes.

Roma defended with 11 men behind the ball and then entrusted Marco Borriello and Francesco Totti with very rare spells of attacks.

Just as it was looking like Julio Sergio was going to earn his side a point, he was beaten by a touch of class from Muller. The Germany international curled his shot with the outside of the boot into the far corner of Julio Sergio’s goal without any hesitation.

Klose then sealed Bayern’s win in the 83rd minute with his first goal of the season,when he lunged at Holger Badstuber’s free-kick and got his studs to the ball to divert it past Julio Sergio.

Ivica Olic applied the cool finish for Bayern’s winner after robbing Evra of possession in the box, and at that moment United medical staff instantly ran to Rooney, who appeared to land awkwardly on his right ankle after trying to avoid having his left foot trodden on by Mario Gomez.

Rooney had earlier increased his goal tally to 34, before deflecting Franck Ribery’s free-kick past Edwin van der Sar 13 minutes from time.

The initial fear was that it was another of those dreaded metatarsal injuries and while that did not seem to be the problem on closer inspection, any injury lay-off at this stage of the season will be bad news in particular for Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bochum vs Bayern Munich Highlights

Bayern Munich ripped Bochum apart to move to their highest Bundesliga position since the end of last season. Mario Gomez put Louis van Gaal’s side ahead in the 23rd minute at the Ruhr Stadion with an own goal from Mergim Mavraj helping them on their road to victory ten minutes later. Ivica Olic scored his first of the game in the 43rd minute before adding his second and Bayern’s fourth in the 50th minute before Danijel Pranjic wrapped up the match just five minutes later.

Christian Fuchs scored a little consolation for Bochum in the 76th minute as they became the latest side to be beaten by a rejuvenated Bayern.
