Bayer Leverkusen vs Zenit St Petersburg Highlights: UEFA Cup Highlights

Zeanit look to have sealed the semi Final berth of UEFA Cup after scoring a 4-1 away victory against helpless Bayern Leverkusen. Now they will host Bayern which looks a mere formality.

Zenit took the well deserved lead in the 20th minute when Andrei Arshavin intercepted a poor pass from Tranquillo Barnetta and dribblled past the Bayern defense lifted the ball over Adler into the top post.

Bayer equalised on 34 minutes Barnetta stole the ball from Arshavin, he fed the ball to Vratislav Gresko, Gresko’s cross was met by Bernd Schneider who headed the ball, which was cleared off the line but it found Kiessling who just drilled the ball past Malafeev.

The game ended in even heading into the second half. In the second half the Russians were in a hurry to score goals and they scored three goals in a matter of twenty minutes.

Arshavin started the action by collecting the ball on the left wing and passed a perfect cross to the unmarked Pavel Pogrebniak who scored his ninth goal of the competition.

Alexander Anyukov’s ended hope for Bayern by scoring the third from 25 yard shot whcih just bounced past Adler into the left corner.

Igor Denisov scored the fourth one with a clinical finish to round off the counter attacking move from the away side.

Bundesliga Weekend Preview: Round 24

Another round of Bundesliga action gets underway this weekend with Bayern Munich looking extend their lead at the top. They currently enjoy a seven point lead, which could extend quite realistically to ten.

Werder move back to bundesliga after shock UEFA Cup exit, while Hamburg and Leverkusen fight for third place

Schalke vs Duisburg

The Königsblauen’s Champions League win over Porto had a positive knock-on effect in the Bundesliga as the won 2-0 away to Bielefeld last weekend to go 5th.
Things are extremely tight at the top of the table with ust six points sepeating Werder Bremen in second and Stuttgart in sixth so anything less than three points at home to 17th place Duisburg will in all likelihood see Schalke usurped by one of the teams behind them and dent their hopes of Champions League football next season.
The Zebras need the points for a completely different reason but face an extremely tough challenge on Friday, although Schalke have lost their last two home games in the Bundesliga to Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich.

Bochum vs Stuttgart

Bochum host Stuttgart on saturday at the rewirPower Stadion looking to get back to winning ways and push their way up into the top half of the table. Marcel Koller’s side had been on the up with two successive home wins over Hannover and Bayer Leverkusen, but were held last weekend at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Stuttgart on the other hand are looking to build upon their 6-3 win over Werder Bremen and their 1-0 victory over Cottbus in the midweek rearranged fixture.
Despite talk of a new mini-crisis at the club following losses in their first two games back after the winter break, Armin Veh’s side are up to sixth in the table and have their targets firmly set on European qualification.

Energie Cottbus vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich receive a huge boost as their talisman ribery commits to the club and will look to take another big step towards realising their ambition of becoming Bundesliga champions with another three points against bottom side Energie Cottbus.
The Bavarians extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points last weekend thanks in large part to Werder’s crushing defeat at Stuttgart. Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side are in a very busy period in their season what with their Uefa Cup and German Cup fixtures.
Cottbus have not won a game since their 5-1 thumping of Hannover in their last game before the winter break and trainer Bojan Prasnikar will have to come up with an improvement fast if they are to avoid the drop into the second division.

Hamburg vs Borussia Dortmund

Hamburg will set to gain confidence on saturday when they host Borussia Dortmund after they were knocked out of UEFA Cup by leverkusen

The Hanseaten still sit third but are coming under a lot of pressure from their Uefa Cup nemesis Leverkusen and the battle for the third Champions League spot is really hotting up.
Dortmund are still too inconsistent for Thomas Doll’s liking and their league position of 13th will not be to the liking of the passionate BVB fans. Dortmund will be hoping that they catch HSV on the back of a Europen hangover and can take a full three points from the game.

Hansa Rostock vs Hertha Berlin

Hertha Berling will set to get going and secure their first win after a string of good performances which resulted in draws. They face a Hansa Rostock side who have climbed clear of the relegation zone but now need to maintain their form to stay clear of the drop zone.
The capital club have been boosted by the arrival of Raffael and Marko Pantelic continues to maintain his impressive goal ratio. What is needed now is to start taking three points from games that they are currently drawing.

Hannover vs Bielefeld

Hannover host Arminia Bielefeld at the AWD Arena looking to become the latest side to profit from the apalling run the visitors find themselves in.
Michael Frontzeck has not had the desired effect on Bielefeld since he succeeded Ernst Middendorp, with the ‚Arminen’ on a run of eight defeats in their last ten games. An away trip to Hannover will not be filling them with confidence.
Hannover will be looking to secure all three points and remain in spot for the European qualification.

Karlsruhe vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Karlsruhe are entering the crunch phase of their season right now having dropped down to seventh. The newly promoted side have outstripped all expectations of them this season but would dearly love to finish in a European qualification.
They should not be too ashamed of last week’s loss to Bayern but will want to get some points on the board at home to Frankfurt in order to get themselves back in the fight for a top six finish.
Friedhelm Funkel’s Frankfurt side currently sit ninth and along with a whole host of other clubs have their eyes on a European qualification berth. Therefore games like this one will have an all-important bearing on their end of season position.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Nürnberg

After sending rivals Hamburg out of the Uefa Cup on Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen will set out to replace them in third place in the Bundesliga and claim pole position in the race for a Champions League place.
Nürnberg still need to kick on and start producing results if they are to pull clear of the relegation zone in which they find themselves. A hard-fought draw with Hamburg saw them show that they could perform against the bigger sides but in their predicament, they need three points.

Werder Bremen vs Wolfsburg

Werder Bremen are in danger of letting Bayern run away from them right mow. Last week’s results saw Bayern open up a seven point lead at the top of the table and it is within the realms of possibility that the lead could be as much as ten points with the wrong result against Wolfsburg.
Crashing out of the Uefa Cup on Thursday to Rangers will not have helped confidence at the Weser Stadion, so Felix Magath may well be able to do his former employers a big favour by taking points off of Werder on Sunday.
Wolfsburg are yet another side on the cusp of the European qualification places and their form of late suggests they could be well placed to finish in the top six.
