Souleymane Diawara’s goal early into the second half gave Marseille their first points in this season’s Champions League. Didier Deschamps’ side were dominant for much of the game against Slovakian minnows MSK Zilina who were very defensive, but had only the defender’s header to show for their efforts. And the visitors could easily have snatched a point, with Steve Mandanda making two fine saves to deny any points for the visitors.

A highly anticipated battle between two French superpowers delivered on its promise of action tonight, as Bordeaux fought it out for 90 minutes with Olympique Marseille.

Didier Deschamps’ men dominated much of the early possession, resulting in Ben Arfa’s delivery from the corner flag being directed into the net by Taye Taiwo.

As the game unfolded – despite some good work from the hosts – an equalizer was hard to find. The home side were not rewarded for their efforts, as seven minutes from the break OM struck again through Fernando Cavenghi.

After the restart, Souleymane Diawara tarnished Marseille’s clean sheet. A tussle with Marouane Chamakh awarded him a penalty which was duly belted into the net with finesse from the boot of Yoann Gourcuff.

Le Havre AC vs Bordeaux Highlights: Ligue 1 Highlights

Bordeaux moved topped the Ligue 1 standings tonight courtesy of a comfortable victory at basement boys Le Havre.

Yoann Gourcuff opened the scoring after 12 minutes and Souleymane Diawara added a second 13 minutes into the second half before Wendel sealed the game two minutes from time.

The triumph puts Laurent Blanc’s team above champions Lyon, who host Sochaux tomorrow, on goal difference.
