Arsenal vs Bolton Highlights: EPL(21.01.2009)
Arsenal stormed to the top of the Premier League as they displayed a spirited performace to beat Bolton at the Emirates Stadium.
Owen Coyle’s men – beaten 2-0 by the Gunners on Sunday – took a shock lead after seven minutes through Gary Cahill and Matthew Taylor then doubled the lead from the penalty spot.
However, Arsene Wenger’s young guns showed the character of champions to rally before half-time through Tomas Rosicky’s strike.
Captain Cesc Fabregas netted a controversial equaliser on 52 minutes, and then Thomas Vermaelen handed the lead to the home side.
Andrey Arshavin netted a fourth to take the Gunners above Chelsea on goal difference, however having now played a match more but nevertheless a scenario which looked so unlikely following a resounding 3-0 home defeat by the Blues at the end of November, which left Arsenal some 11 points adrift.
The Gunners had since won six of the last eight league games to haul themselves back into the title race, going by the way they played today Arsenal,s men are surely coming of age.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas produced an inspirational display on his return from injury to spoil new Bolton manager Owen Coyle’s ‘homecoming’ at the Reebok Stadium.
The Spain midfielder, who had missed three matches with a hamstring injury, scored his 10th league goal of the season in the 28th minute after a neat one-two with Eduardo.
His surging run then led to substitute Fran Merida scoring the second and sealing the tie 12 minutes from time as former Wanderers player Coyle’s reign got off to a losing start.
Arsenal’s victory, which saw then soak up plenty of pressure from a struggling Bolton side trying to play their way out of trouble, took them to within three points of league leaders Chelsea.
With these two teams due to meet in the return fixture at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, Arsene Wenger’s side could well take over at the top in the next week.

Although Nadir Belhadj – one of several Pompey players set to leave for African Nations Cup duty pulled one back, Cameroon midfielder Alex Song nodded in a fourth with 10 minutes left.

Liverpool suffered their second home defeat in five days as Arsenal grabbed a 2-1 victory in a match which was supposed to be a new beginning for the Anfield men.
Manager Rafael Benitez had insisted the season started again for his men after their midweek Champions League defeat to Fiorentina.
But he did not get his wish even though Liverpool led at the break through a Dirk Kuyt goal and should have had a penalty when William Gallas fouled Steven Gerrard.
Arsenal grabbed two quick goals through a Glen Johnson own goal and an outstanding winner from Andrey Arshavin to heap more misery on Reds.
Arsenal are now comfortably placed six points behind leaders Chelsea, with a game in hand.
