Arsenal vs West Ham Highlights: EPL Highlights
Alex Song’s late header gave Premier League title chasers Arsenal a narrow victory over West Ham to deny the Hammers’ a much deserved point at Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal had plenty of momentum going into this afternoon’s game after following up impressive Champions League performances with victory at Manchester City in the EPL and marching into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup by demolishing Newcastle.
But Robert Green, in front of watching England manager Fabio Capello, had pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the Gunners at bay. However, with just two minutes left, Song dived to head home Gael Clichy’s stunning cross as Arsene Wenger’s improving side kept up the pressure on leaders Chelsea.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal Highlights: Carling Cup
England international Theo Walcott had a great day as Arsenal cemented their place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals with a fine double from Walcott as Newcastle’s luck deserted them.
The Gunners surged into a 2-0 lead courtesy of an unlucky Tim Krul own goal and a controversial second from Walcott to condemn the Magpies to a third defeat in four attempts at St James’ Park.
If there was a touch of misfortune about the opening goal in first-half injury time – Ryan Taylor’s header hit the unwitting Krul and dropped into the net there was more than a hint of injustice about the second when Nicklas Bendtner, who had run from an offside position, collided with Mike Williamson as he attempted to pass the ball to Walcott.
But Bendtner’s 83rd-minute strike and Walcott’s finish two minutes from time oozed class as the Gunners eased their way into the last eight.

Manchester City vs Arsenal Highlights: EPL Highlights
Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Nicklas Bendtner were on score sheet as Arsenal struck a blow for the old guard against 10-man Manchester City, triumphing 3-0 at Eastlands. City had been looking to reclaim second place in the Premier League but hopes of a fifth successive win against a team which they were supposed beat comfortably, give there recent form were all but dashed with the early sending off of Dedryck Boyata.
Nasri put the Gunners ahead 20 minutes into a fiery contest and although Joe Hart’s heroics kept City in contention with a penalty save from Cesc Fabregas, Song and Bendtner killed the tie off. Victory lifted Arsenal back into the top four, above City on goal difference, and contradicted recent criticism of the Londoners’ record against their so-called title rivals.

Arsenal vs Shakhtar Donetsk Highlights: Champions League
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas returned from injury to help the Gunners cement their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 5-1 romp against Group H rivals Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainians had brought an impressive record to Emirates Stadium, defending a 100% return so far in Europe, not to mention their impressive 15 wins from 17 games at home.
However, Arsenal made them look ordinary, barely troubled by the Ukranian side, as Alex Song was gifted an early goal following a terrible fumble by Shakhtar keeper Andrei Pyatov – and Arsene Wenger’s men never looked back.
In-form winger Samir Nasri smashed home his second goal in three days to make it 2-0 before the break, with Fabregas’ spot-kick ending the tie as a contest on the hour while Jack Wilshere and Marouane Chamakh completing the rout. Croatia striker Eduardo, sold during the summer, netted a fine consolation goal on the return to his former club with seven minutes left, which got him a warm round of applause from the home fans.
Arsenal now head out to Donetsk in a fortnight knowing a point from their remaining three matches, one at home, would probably secure a top-two finish in Group H.
