Manchester United vs Manchester City Highlights: EPL (27.01.2009)

Wayne Rooney headed Manchester United to Wembley with an injury time winner to beat Manchester City in a pulsating 3-1 victory.

After Carlos Tevez had threatened to take the semi-final into extra-time when he superbly turned home Craig Bellamy’s cross 14 minutes from time, up popped Rooney, who nodded home Ryan Giggs’ cross to secure a Carling Cup final meeting with Aston Villa on February 28.

Red Devils thought they were already in Wembley Controlling possession against a City side which sat too deep, they had carved out a decisive lead thanks to two precise finishes from Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick either side of the interval.

Only Tevez’s refusal to bow down to the feet of his old club kept the Blues going, but it was not enough. And though Rooney inexplicably failed to grab a third before Tevez struck, he is too much a part of United’s fabric to merely accept defeat.

Preston North End vs Chelsea Highlights: FA Cup(23.01.2010)

Daniel Sturridge lived upto his growing reputation by helping Chelsea secure a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Deepdale.

The former Manchester City striker scored his third goal for the club and repeatedly kept Preston’s defense on their toes.

Sturridge’s strike in the 47th minute effectively killed off the tie in what was Darren Ferguson’s first home match as manager.

Ferguson will no doubt regret on a chance that changed the face of the game.

Darren Carter should have canceled out the opening goal from Nicolas Anelka but somehow screwed his shot wide of the target.

Chelsea controlled the game and had it not been for goalkeeper Andy Lonergan,s heroics the margin could have been greater.

Manchester United vs Hull City Highlights: EPL(23.01.2010)

Wayne Rooney scored stunning four goals to send Manchester United top of the Premier League at a mutinous Old Trafford.

After opening the scoring just seven minutes into a one-sided contest against Hull, Rooney had to wait until last eight minutes before the end to get his second.

A third, and his fourth United hat-trick, followed shortly afterward from a cross by the excellent Nani before Rooney completed his own personal massacre of Phil Brown’s men with a solo effort in stoppage time.

It certainly confirmed Rooney’s well-being ahead of the Carling Cup decider with Manchester City next Wednesday and fuels Sir Alex Ferguson’s belief his side are on the verge of something big. Victory and status are just part of the story at Old Trafford just now though.
