Bayern Munich ripped Bochum apart to move to their highest Bundesliga position since the end of last season. Mario Gomez put Louis van Gaal’s side ahead in the 23rd minute at the Ruhr Stadion with an own goal from Mergim Mavraj helping them on their road to victory ten minutes later. Ivica Olic scored his first of the game in the 43rd minute before adding his second and Bayern’s fourth in the 50th minute before Danijel Pranjic wrapped up the match just five minutes later.

Christian Fuchs scored a little consolation for Bochum in the 76th minute as they became the latest side to be beaten by a rejuvenated Bayern.

Carlos Tevez came to ten-man Manchester City’s rescue at the Reebok Stadium by securing a point with 13 minutes remaining of a fierce encounter.

It was his second goal of the game and his eighth of the season after Craig Bellamy had been sent off for two yellow cards. Tevez is now on a roll but the disappointing fact for the eastlanders was that they failed to build on the splendid victory against Chelsea last weekend. This was their eighth draw in the last nine league games yet it could have been a lot worse.

Bolton belied their lowly league status with a fine performance and Ivan Klasnic scored a brace. There was also a superb individual effort from Gary Cahill to savor.

Birmingham vs West Ham Highlights: EPL(12.12.09)

Lee Bowyer scored the only goal of the game against his former club to send Birmingham into the top half of the Premier League and increase the relegation worries of a West Ham side who had Mark Noble sent off in the closing stages.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who made the permanent switch from Upton Park in the summer after an initial loan spell, sealed the match with his sixth goal of the campaign.

It enabled City to record a fourth successive win and equal their best top-flight run for five years and since the Steve Bruce era.

Bowyer, to his credit, did not indulge in any unnecessarycelebrations after breaking the deadlock with his third goal in the last four games. Birmingham were the dominant side for much of the game, with Barry Ferguson again impressing in the center.

But they had to survive a late onslaught from hammers and should be thanking Roger Johnson and Scott Dann for some solid defensive performance to claim all three points.

Manchester United vs Aston Villa Highlights: EPL(12.12.09)

Manchester United failed to produce any late heroics this time as Gabriel Agbonlahor’s first-half goal earned Aston Villa their first victory at Old Trafford since 1983.

Sir Alex Ferguson described Federico Macheda’s sensational injury-time effort in the corresponding fixture last season as the defining moment of United’s season.

It is too early for Agbonlahor’s header to be described in the same way, but on a day when United were in action after Chelsea had stumbled shockingly on home soil, it was a poor result for the hosts.
