Blackburn Rovers vs Burnley Highlights: EPL highlights

Sam Allardyce saw his Blackburn side claimed the victory over local rivals Burnley in the first top-flight meeting of the clubs for 43 years.

It was a comfortable victory after an early scare when Robbie Blake made the breakthrough for Burnley after five minutes. However the home side effectively sealed the points before half-time thanks to some fine goals from David Dunn, Franco di Santo and Pascal Chimbonda.

Substitute Chris Eagles pulled one back for Burnley in stoppage time but they have now lost five successive games on the road in the Premier League this season.

Sunderland vs Liverpool Highlights: EPL Highlights

Darren Bent staked a further claim for a place in England’s World Cup squad as his side heaped further misery on Liverpool. However, he did so in controversial circumstances as the visitors were left fuming over the fifth-minute goal which secured the Black Cats’ first victory over a ‘top four’ team since their return to the Premier League.

Bent’s eighth goal of the season came when his shot was deflected past goalkeeper Pepe Reina by a red balloon which had been thrown onto the pitch, although referee Mike Jones had little option but to award the goal.

With the attacking duo of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres missing, they were a shadow of the team which pushed Manchester United so close last season as they slipped to their fourth league defeat of the campaign despite a late, late rally. However, Sunderland held their nerves and secured the victory.

Arsenal vs Birmingham Highlights: EPL Highlights

Arsenal continued their momentum with a 3-1 Premier League win over Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium. Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby had put the Gunners into a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes.

However, Lee Bowyer capitalized on a mistake by young keeper Vito Mannone to pull a goal back for the visitors before half-time. After soaking up plenty of pressure during the second half from the spirited Blues, Andrey Arshavin wrapped up the points late on as Arsene Wenger’s side made it seven successive victories in all competitions this season.

Manchester United vs Bolton Highlights: EPL Highlights

Manchester United received more last-gasp salvation at Old Trafford – this time from veteran Edwin van der Sar as they scrambled back to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Bolton.

Last minute goals against Manchester City and Sunderland have kept United afloat at Old Trafford this season. This time the drama was all at the other end. Two goals up and cruising against Bolton thanks to an early Zat Knight own goal and Antonio Valencia’s first goal since a summer move from Wigan, United looked destined to cruise home. Instead, the whole game changed following a series of superb saves from Jussi Jaaskelainen. Taylor pulled one back for the visitors 15 minutes from time. And with almost the final touch, Gary Cahill went agonizingly close to snatching a point with a point-blank header which Van der Sar somehow managed to keep out and secure all the three points for United.
