Liverpool vs Chelsea Highlights: UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals Highlights

Liverpool were ripped apart in their own back-yard in the Champions League as Chelsea took a huge stride on the road to a possible Champions League final in Rome with a 3-1 win.

Chelsea produced a performance of sheer quality and strength to shatter Liverpool’s dream after this quarter-final first leg.

Next Tuesday’s second leg at Stamford Bridge may not be a mere formality just yet, but Liverpool will need an extra-ordinary performance to stay in the competition.

Liverpool got off to a perfect start when Fernando Torres scored in the sixth minute. But Chelsea gradually took over, and two powerful headers from Branislav Ivanovic – both poorly-defended set-pieces – and a close-range Didier Drogba strike took Reds off their gaurd.

Steven Gerrard appeared to be struggling for full fitness – and with their inspirational skipper’s powers compromised, Liverpool saw a 14-month and 32-match unbeaten home record destroyed.

The side that has of late hammered Real Madrid and Manchester United into submission was nowhere to be seen as Chelsea reigned supreme tonight.

However, Liverpool have time again proved to be a side who can bounce back from very difficult situations, especially in the European circuit. Chelsea will be at with their two away goal advantage and will be much tougher to beat at home.
