Andy Robinson salvaged injury time winner to send Leeds into the last 16 of the Carling Cup after Hartlepool had led on two occasions in an Elland Road thriller which ended 3-2.

Extra-time seemed certain until Leeds winger Robinson collected Jonny Howson’s pass and fired an unstoppable shot past stunned keeper Arran Lee-Barrett.

Leeds-born Andy Monkhouse lead Hartlepool in front inside two minutes. Richie Humphreys’ free-kick from the left was shunted to the far post by Joel Porter and Monkhouse headed past Leeds keeper Casper.

Leeds were gifted a easy 14th minute equaliser through Livingston striker Robert Snodgrass. He won the ball, sprinted forward and shot inside the left post from 15 yards.

Whereas Hartlepool remained unchanged, Leeds made nine changes as manager Gary McAllister gambled on his `shadow squad’.

But soon after Aussie international Joel Porter had rifled Hartlepool back in front on 33 minutes with a 25-yard drive which caught Casper off his line, Leeds’ leading scorer Jermaine Beckford came in place of Snodgrass who was suffering from a stomach cramps.

Leeds were much better side in the second half and they leveled thins in the 57th minute, Enoch Showunmi forcing the ball over the line after David Prutton’s cross was turned against the bar by Beckford before Robinson provided his last minute winner.

at least hartlepool have a proper rival now, with Darlington insisting on losing 4-1 and 3-0 to us on many occasions, and then refusing to be in the same league as us, although it is possable that they just cant get promoted out of the poorest division in the football league.
