Lyon scored twice in the final 17 minutes to deny Fiorentina all three points in a exciting Champions League Group F clash at the Stade Gerland on Wednesday.

Italy striker Alberto Gilardino put the visitors two goals ahead after directing home headers at the start and end of the first half.

But Lyon scripted a superb comeback, halving the deficit under controversial circumstances after they refused to kick the ball out of play with Fiorentina defender Luciano Zauri down injured. Frederic Piquionne eventually found the net amid furious appealing from viola.

Karim Benzema then became the saviour by slamming home a deflected shot in the 86th minute and snatched a point from Fiorentina.

Lyon had lost the first two group matches last year and they have again made it tough for themselves again, but given the score at half-time, they will be happy with the result.
