Philip Lahm was the hero tonight as he scored a last minute winner and stormed Germany into the finals of Euro 2008 and ended Turkey’s fairy tale run at St Jakob-Park in Basel.
Turkey was a team ravaged by injuries and suspensions and it was very difficult to make it to the finals, but the Turkish side did not lack any venom and completely dominated the first half. They first hit the woodwork at 13th minute through Kazim-Richards. Turkey Kept Lehmann busy and got the much deserved lead in the 22nd minute through Ugur Boral.
This time again it was Kazim-Richards who lofted the ball and Ugur Boral scored from the rebound. But the lead was short lived as Germnay equalised through Schweinsteiger, who converted the low cross by Podolski.
Second half was no different with both the sides firing across the post without any success. Goal scorer Boral, Hitzlsperger and Podolski misfired there shots.
Germany took the lead in the 78th minute, when Klose beat Rustu and Topal to take the lead. But Turkey showed why they have reached the quarter final and scored the equaliser when 23 year old Sabri sent in a low cross and Semith managed to send it past Lehmann.
This match again looked to be heading to the extra time Bayern Munich full-back Lahm played a one two with Hitzlsperger and fired the winner into the top corner.
Now three time champions Germany will be facing either Spain or Russian the final at Ernst Happel Stadium.
First Half Highlights:
Germany 2 -1 Turkey
Germany 2-2 Turkey
Germany 3-2 Turkey
