Manchester United became the European champions for the third time on a night which was nerve racking and filled with drama. scores were tied at 1-1 at first half and both the sides failed to find the back of the net in second half and things did not change in extra time, only action was Drogba being sent off for challenging Vidic.

It all came down to penalties. No mistakes were made in the first two penalties and Ronaldo missed his chance and eventually Chelsea had the lead and Terry who was spot on tonight took the kick which could have won them the Champions League, but he slipped and his shot hit the post. Heart Break for Chelsea. Furthermore Anderson. Giggs, Kalou all converted their Chances, Anelka who reached the CL finals in his first season for the blues could not convert his shot and Red Devils claimed European glory.

In the end it was a very tough one to call. United bossed the first half and were unfortunate to go in level at half time, but after that Chelsea controlled the game. They had 24 shots on goal and hit the post twice. Then their captain, who had been magnificent all match, had the chance to win it from 12 yards but slips at the crucial moment and misses. Chelsea had one had on the trophy, but luck eluded them and Man United were crowned the Champions. Man United will be emphatic to have won a double and that too on the 50th anniversary of Munich Disaster.
